A little bit about your instructor…

Hi there! My name is Kristina Bertoia and I am a watercolour artist, mother of two, breast cancer survivor, and avid mental health advocate. I am a firm believer in the healing ability of art, both as viewer and as a creator. I am also an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.

I have struggled with anxiety and depression for decades and I use art as an effective coping and personal expression tool in my own personal life.

I want to share my experience and knowledge with others and felt moved to create a course that would do just that! ‘Self-Expression Through Art’ is a labour of love and hundreds of hours of research and development.

  • ‘Self-Expression Through Art’ is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to use art as a form of self-care. While this isn’t an art therapy course, anyone can learn to use art to express their deepest emotions, relieve stress, and benefit their mental health.

  • Watercolour paper, a watercolour paintbrush and watercolour paints. I go through how to choose the right materials in the course so you aren’t left guessing and don’t waste money getting the wrong materials.

    To make thing even easier for you, you can also purchase a kit with all the art supplies you will need for the course to take the guesswork out of choosing materials (I include all my favourite brands).

  • There are 3 main modules in ‘Self-Expression Through Art’

    1 .Creativity for Self-Care

    In this module, students will learn what self-care really is, how they can make time for art in their busy lives and how to give themselves permission to be creative, regardless of their skill level.

    2. The Link Between Colour & Emotion

    Whether we realize it or not, colour has a powerful impact on our emotions. In this module, we will go through both the positive and negative qualities of each colour and how we can use that information to our advantage in our creative practice.

    3. Expressive Art Making

    In this module, students will learn how to use art to express themselves without judgment or reservation.

  • This course is entirely online. Each module contains a video and workbook component. After watching the video, the student will fill out the accompanying workbook section and complete the exercises. All of this can be done at your own speed. The videos are kept short so you can easily fit this course into your schedule.

  • The time is takes to complete the course will vary from student to student. There are 3 main modules in the course with several sub-sections in each. There are 46 pages in the workbook. There are 15 videos which total under 3 hours in length combined. Aim to set aside approximately 1 hour per week to complete the videos and accompanying worksheets and exercises.

  • You will have lifetime access to the course material!
